LOS ANGELES – Councilmember Ysabel Jurado today issued the following statement responding to the the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s announcement that bulk food waste removal is complete at the Lineage Warehouse in Boyle Heights:
“A public-health deadline should mean something. The City gave Lineage 45 days to remove the biohazard food waste; today is day 60 on the City’s timeline.
AQMD has now verified bulk removal, but that is overdue progress—not a completed cleanup—and it does not erase two months of odors, pests, and disruption. Lineage now has seven days to remove debris, power-wash, and disinfect Freezer 1. The City’s 90- and 120-day deadlines still stand.
We will keep pressing for independent verification, consequences, and the relief and accountability needed to make Boyle Heights whole.”
