Councilmember Ysabel Jurado today issued the following statement regarding the corrective-action plan provided by Lineage to public officials:
“Lineage met with regulators today and offered the same explanations the community has already heard.
That is not accountability.
Hundreds of Boyle Heights residents have filed complaints. AQMD has issued multiple public-nuisance violations. Families are still reporting that they cannot comfortably breathe, open their windows, or let their children play outside.
The facts are already in front of us. What is missing is enforcement.
I am calling on AQMD to use every authority available to require immediate, measurable corrective action from Lineage. I am also calling on the responsible City departments to determine whether the company's current odor- and pest-control measures are adequate, whether they comply with the City’s cleanup requirements, and what additional protections must be ordered now.
Boyle Heights residents should not have to submit hundreds more complaints before someone acts. They should not be expected to tolerate conditions that would never be accepted in wealthier communities.
It has been more than 30 days since this disaster began. Lineage has had ample time to address these impacts, and the community has waited long enough.
I want clear directives, enforceable deadlines, independent verification, and consequences if the violations continue.
I will keep fighting alongside Boyle Heights residents and pressing every agency with authority over this site until the community sees real relief—not another presentation, another promise, or another excuse.”
