Councilmember Ysabel Jurado to Establish Dedicated Funding System to Maintain Sixth Street Bridge

Posted on 10/06/2026

LOS ANGELES – The City Council today adopted Councilmember Ysabel Jurado’s motion to begin the process of establishing a dedicated Sixth Street Viaduct Maintenance Trust Fund. This innovative funding mechanism would allow the City to accept, retain, and expend donations from private entities to support additional sanitation services, graffiti abatement, and beautification for the bridge.

Read her adopted motion here.

“The Sixth Street Bridge is an iconic gateway inseparable from the character of our Downtown and Eastside neighborhoods, yet it still lacks the investment necessary to remain as the vibrant, welcoming fixture it was designed to be,” said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado. “This trust fund would create a dedicated place to receive contributions and put them toward stewarding the viaduct’s ongoing cleanliness and long-term prosperity. Our commitment to this bridge has to ensure its longevity. I’m committed to advancing every tool available that will strengthen our shared commitment to cleaner, safer corridors that better serve the needs of every worker, family, and Angeleno who relies on them.”

From her first days in office, Councilmember Jurado recognized the urgent need for additional cleanliness services for public spaces and key infrastructure citywide. This motion follows Councilmember Jurado’s work to engage private entities who have sought to fund Sixth Street Viaduct preservation efforts.

Jurado has also partnered with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) to provide additional beautification services dedicated to the Sixth Street Bridge and Council District 14. LACC would continue to supplement services provided by LA Sanitation through graffiti removal, brush and weed abatement, bulky item pickup, and trash pickup on an ongoing basis.
